Replacing a Broken ATV Axle There are some ATV accessories that are always handy to have in stock. The axle happens to be one of them. It is only natural for the ATV to wear and tear as you use it over time and thing that is most susceptible to damage is the axle itself. It is a big hassle to find one once it breaks down. A fairly common way is to just Google “ATV Parts” to find the nearest dealers in your area or just go to the dealer where you purchased the ATV. In either case, it’s always a good idea to have a few spares sitting in your garage for a rainy day. Here is what you need to do to replace the broken axle. • Make sure you have all the tools available that you need. Do not open up the ATV and then discover you can’t go on any further because you lack a certain tool to complete the task. Double check that you have everything you need so you can work without interruption. • Put your ATV on a stand and then remove the tires. • Once the tires are off, the brake caliper should become visible. Use your tools to remove it from chassis and keep it in a safe place. • Next in line for removal is the large hub nut. Some ATV models like Honda have two of those - One main and the other retaining nut. This is usually the toughest part as it requires a lot of muscle. You might need to recruit some help here. If you happen to have a rubber mallet, it would help tremendously. Remove the retraining clip and the ATV’s hub nut off the axel. Make sure to do this one at a time. • Grab the new ATV axle and place it through the side where the ATV sprocket is located. Use the rubber mallet again if needed. • Reinstall, the rotor hub and the break caliper. Make sure to tighten the hub nut and axle nuts before putting the tires back on. Performing this maintenance procedure, especially for the first time, will require some time and effort but once completed, you will feel a sense of pride and accomplishment and from then on, things will only get easier. The important thing is to make sure your ATV is regularly maintained and in good shape. Keywords: ATV, Honda, Sources: http://www.americancvstore.com
